Faced with a semi-derelict half of a former Victorian Convalescent home in the once thriving seaside town of Rhyl in North Wales, Lloyd Evans Prichard were appointed to led a team in its repair and conversion, funded partly by the THI scheme operating in Denbighshire, plus other grants. The traditional Victorian gabled redbrick building was bought by The West Rhyl Young People's Project who were growing out of their smaller premises directly across the road. The WRYPP subsequently employed LEP to carry out works from condition survey to completion.
The scheme concentrated on repairing the severely dilapidated collection of buildings, including minor demolition of various more recent lean-to structures within the courtyard. The whole complex was restored and converted in a facility for the young people of Rhyl.
The facility was to include a drop-in centre, a kitchen for general use and "cooking" activities, an IT suite to be used by the clients, a workshop area for group sessions, private consultation rooms, and offices for the staff of the Project.
Lloyd Evans Prichard incorporated the new, vibrant facility within the frame work of the Victorian building, repairing as much as possible, retaining the character of the spaces, while also offering open, comfortable, and most importantly, friendly spaces for the young people of Rhyl.
