In Spring 2004 Lloyd Evans Prichard were commissioned by Liverpool Football Club to carry out a condition and historic appraisal of the buildings/structures within the park landscape designed by Edward Kemp. Our work formed an integral part of a wider planning application for the construction of a state of the art football stadium on an underused section of the park. The permission was ultimately granted subject to the full restoration and regeneration of the historic core of the park and our appointment has now been picked up by Liverpool City Council to take the scheme forward to construction.

The structures include the extensive park wall, the sandstone pavilions and bridges. The Gladstone conservatory is also a key landmark within the park and is covered in more detail in the "secular" projects.

A series of Pavilions provide shelter along Kemp's formal terraces and frame views across the park to the distant landscapes. Constructed in the signature red sandstone of Liverpool they adopt a simplified gothic style with column and arches supporting slate roofs. Our proposal includes for full restoration with the incorporation of new seating, lighting and public art.

A total of five Bridges traverse the lakes of Kemp's picturesque landscape. The main bridge is an impressive masonry arch structure whilst the remaining bridges are of composite iron beam/stone abutment construction. The stone bridge is in particularly poor condition and will require substantial rebuilding. The other bridges are to be carefully dismantled to allow restoration of the iron beams and guardrails with new matching stonework where required.
