Working for Shropshire County Council under lead landscape consultants, Lloyd Evans Prichard developed the project up to RIBA Stage C. this comprised the repair and reorganisation of several decayed timber framed buildings constructed on the bank of the mere by the Dukes of Bridgewater for the enjoyment of the estate tenants and townspeople of Ellsemere.

A group of three nineteenth century timber framed boat houses and a timber framed kiosk were reconstructed. This involved partially dismantling the buildings back to the timber frames and reconstructing the foundations and plinth walls below, which were severely decayed. The buildings were fully repaired, reconstructed and re-roofed.

The main building, an under utilised but unique prefabricated timber framed motor house cafeteria of 1920, was converted and extended to secure the visitor centre as a focal point of Mere-side activity.

Repairs to this building included replacing rotten timber cladding and retiling the roof in a matching Roman pantile.

The intensified use of the building to provide restaurant, educational, visitor centre and information centre required two extensions which were designed as timber framed structures with timber clad sides and pantile roofs.

The accommodation was designed to be extremely flexible permitting each area to be accessed from the others by the public or used independently. Each space relates to the Mere-side setting with carefully channelled views from the windows.
