Easingwold is an attractive Georgian market town in North Yorkshire and is a much sought after residential location. It is within the rural catchment area not only of York but also Leeds and Teesside.

Long Street is a small infill development. It occupies a gap in one of the town's principal streets, on the site of a former green grocers and plant nursery.

Lloyd Evans Prichard's commission, initially from the trustees of the business, was to produce a scheme that would maximise the housing potential of this long but narrow site. The challenge was to design a scheme that could achieve this in a way that would also be sympathetic to the local vernacular and enhance the character of the street. Given its location within the heart of the Conservation Area and its previous use, the planning authority was keen to also maintain a retail use on the site.

The proposed design was granted planning permission in 2004 and comprises four houses, and a shop with two apartments over. We were subsequently engaged by a local developer to produce construction drawings. The development was completed in the Spring 2007. It attracted strong local interest and all units were quickly sold.
